Thom Yorke - Black Swan

Released: 2006
Download It

It might be a bit Kid-A lite, but this is an improvement over the Radiohead-does-Radiohead pastiche of Hail To the Thief.

More solo albums please Thom.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Thirsty Dog

Released: 1996
Download it (5.6 Mb)

Polly, Nick's sorry, really sorry in fact.

But do you really think that's going to stop him getting rat arsed at his local boozer and working himself up into a self-righteous rage?

Not bloody likely.

Tool - The Pot

Released: 2006
Download it (9.8 Mb)

(Scene: Int. Tool, a progressive metal band from Los Angeles, are in a studio recording their fourth album)

Adam: Maynard, you know I was thinking that in our seminal debut album Undertow, we really developed a core sound and song style which we very much deviated from in our subsequent albums.
Maynard: Agreed, I also feel that in spite of the strength of the songs on that album, the tinny shitty production that we all insisted on were to the detriment of the songs.
Adam: In fact I would think that, after the progressive experimentalism of ├ćnima, the percussive tribalism of Lateralus and your time with A Perfect Circle, giving you the opportunity to experiment with and expand your vocal range, on this, the momentous occasion of the recording our fourth album, we should revisit and update our original sound, on at least one song
Danny: bangs on drums*
Maynard: Right on
Justin: I own a bookshop.

Verve - A Man Called Sun

Released: 1992
Download it (7.7 Mb)

Cool, dark, atmospheric. Just don't pay too close attention to the lyrics.

The Smiths ft. Sandie Shaw - Hand In Glove

Released: 1984
Download It

Only Moz would stalk faded 60s icon Sandie Shaw with incessant letters and postcards until she finally agreed to sing on a track with his up-and-coming band.

The result? An improvement on the original!

Public Image - Theme

Delegated Review (by Dylan)
Released: 1978
Download It

I first heard this a month ago, and it speaks volumes that it never even crossed my mind to listen to it again. While Johnny Lydon and the lads were obviously pushing boundaries with their post-punk-art-rock, it doesn't engage me on any level.

There's no better way to describe this other than as a 9-minute dirge.

It's better than the Sex Pistols though.

Hank Williams Jr. - A Country Boy Can Survive

Released: Dunno
Download it (3.9 Mb)

Short Version:
If you are in the octagon when this song plays, know that you are about to get fucked up.

Long Version:
As incongruous as it may seem to hear this country song blare out during Matt Hughes's entrance in the UFC, once you couple it with Hughes's 39 - 4 - 0 record you soon come to realize that this apparently hokey song actually signals that your ass now belongs to Matt Hughes.
